The humble newsletter is actually quite a powerful tool as it can be sent direct to an already engaged audience.

Someone has opted into your newsletter because they have come to you via a lead magnet that they were interested in or a social media post and to make sure they stay it is essential that every newsletter holds their attention - or, the press the dreaded unsubscribe button!

Newsletters can be sent out on a monthly, bi-weekly or weekly basis, any more than that I do not recommend - or your prospect will be gone!

I like to plan the content ahead and get at least three done and scheduled so we are ahead of the game. Newsletters can be a lot of work and are not just a thrown together piece of writing - if done properly.

This includes the following items within this:

Research - Information gathering on things of interest for your audience and doing A/B testing of subject lines to find the ones that really work for your business niche

Design - Making sure that your newsletter is not only informative but is eye catching and will make the reader want to digest all of your information in one go

Writing - Putting my copy skills to good use to get your reader to keep reading and to take action where necessary

Reporting - This will show who has subscribed, unsubscribed, bounced and the click through rate of your campaign

Data cleansing - This is an important step to make sure that all the unsubscribes are actioned along with cleaning the data of old or bounced addresses. Possibly doing a follow up with these people to make sure that it was not a mistake that they unsubscribed.
